My story with board games is pretty much the same as everyone else’s, at least until recently.  I started with Monopoly, Sorry, Uno and even moved onto Risk and Axis and Allies as I got older.

Then I stopped playing them, well mostly I thought that there are “better” and “more challenging” things I can do with my time instead of playing the same type of luck driven games over and over again.

That all changed about two years ago. At the age of 43, I rediscovered how awesome board games are. I was really interested in this newish idea called gamification and was watching a bunch of lectures on that subject on youtube. Then youtube suggested that I might be interested in watching a review of a board game I had never heard of, by someone named Scott Nicholson.  That led me to discover The Dicetower, Rahdo runs thru, tabletop with Will Wheaton and the rest is history, I was hooked on modern design board games.

There is a huge amount of variety in terms of theme, difficulty, game play, genre, even the actual size of the game itself. They can challenge you mentally, or make you laugh out loud, they can make you sweat (if you have ever played Escape or Space Alert, you know what I am talking about). However, most importantly, they are the best way to socialize, have fun, and escape from reality with your friends and family, at least for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love reading, watching a good movie, especially anything with Jennifer Lawrence in it :), but for me, none of them even come close to these board games in terms of how much fun I can have together with my friends.  I understand for someone who has never played this kind of games that statement may sound over the top, well I guess all I can do is to ask you to give one a try and decide yourself.

As my love for this hobby (some others may call it an obsession :), grows, I find myself wanting to share it with as many people as possible. This is why I wanted to start this blog, it helps me share my favorite games with the interworlds, and along the way, if I can convince someone to be a board game geek myself, I will consider this to be a success. Also, it is a good way of shutting my brain off after a great gaming session, because all I want to do right away is to share that experience with somebody:)
